How to choose colors that look good together

How to choose colors that look good together

For all interior designer enthusiasts: in this post we will talk about color theory basics. If you love the art of decoration you definitely should know this.

Color theory is a combination of art and science that’s used to determine what colors look good together - also called color harmony. The base of Color theory is the Color Wheel that you might have heard about at some point in your life. This was was invented in 1666 by Isaac Newton, who arranged of all colors on the spectrum based on their relationship.

The color wheel consists of three primary colors (red, yellow, blue), three secondary colors (created when primary colors are mixed: green, orange, purple) and six tertiary colors (made from primary and secondary colors, such as magenta, amber and teal.

Here are some of the colors combination rules:

• Complementary colors - they are opposites on the color wheel—red and green, for example. These colors enhance each other’s intensity when placed right close to each other.

• Analogous colors: refer to using three colors in a row on the color wheel. Typically, one color in a scheme of analogous colors is the dominant hue, a second color supports it, and a third color acts as an accent.

• Triadic colors: these are evenly spaced around the color wheel. This type of color arrangement often creates bold and vibrant color palettes. This combination is often seen at kids playgrounds.
